Three Corners Adventure Playground has been crowned October’s Outstanding London Sports Venue Award.

October’s Outstanding London Sports Venue Award

The 3G football pitch is based in Clerkenwell, Islington, and was managed by Awesome CIC during the month of October.

Awesome CIC’s core business is to offer free, open access, awesome adventure playgrounds for children and young people.

Awesome adventure play offers six welcoming, fun and safe environments across Islington where children can access a broad range of play opportunities.

Islington has the lowest ratio of open space per person of any London borough and faces many of the typical problems of an inner-city area.

The Three Corners Adventure Playground and pitch were opened in early 2010 and cost 2.4M. The site was built with funds from EC1 New Deal (a Government-funded local regeneration project) the Learning Skills Council and Islington Council (LBI).

Islington has a healthy grassroots sports scene where 37.6% of its residents participate in physical activity at least once a week.

October’s Outstanding London Sports Venue Award, which is determined by Playfinder users, was based on pitch quality, venue amenities and customer experience.

Jamie Foale, Co-Founder of Playfinder, said: “The 3G football pitch at Three Corners Adventure Playground is one of our most popular amongst our users. Its location and quality are two huge factors and the work Awesome CIC do within the local community is highly commendable.”

Guy Lawrence, Managing Director of Awesome CIC said: “We are happy to receive an award from Playfinder users. Three Corners Adventure Playground has been running for over 40 years and with our partners the Peel Institute we hope to sustain the site for children, young people and the wider community for many more years to come.”

Playfinder will be presenting an award to a stand out sports venue each month based on the feedback from its users.
