Westway Sports and Fitness has won MyLocalPitch’s March ‘Outstanding London Sports Venue Award’.
Westway Trust is a charity dedicated to maximising the 23 acres of land below the Westway flyover for the benefit of locals, making it a great environment to keep active and play sport.
The sports centre was built in 1994 and extended in 2004 following an £8.5m grant from Sport England. Westway Trust is keen to develop the sports facilities further, which also form an integral part of the health and wellbeing programmes it supports.
There are a wide range of sports for Londoners to enjoy that include football, tennis, squash, netball, cricket, table tennis, wallball and fives. For those wanting more activity based sports there is a climbing wall and functional fitness studio alongside a gym for strength and conditioning.
The centre has seen several people who started at a school event or party session take up a sport and eventually compete internationally. Recently Westway Trust added three new climbing walls to their extensive indoor centre and they also host a range of high profile events from national climbing competitions to schools’ tennis festivals and football tournaments.
This award, which is determined by MyLocalPitch users, was based on pitch quality, venue amenities and customer experience.
